Quick answer: A TikTok marketing agency runs a brand's presence on TikTok: creator and affiliate programs, paid media, and content built for the feed. For an ecommerce brand the version that matters ends at a checkout rather than a view, which on TikTok means TikTok Shop, GMV Max advertising and an affiliate creator program paid on sales.
What is a TikTok marketing agency?
A TikTok marketing agency is a company a brand hires to run its presence on TikTok: producing or sourcing content, working with creators, buying ads, and measuring what comes back. That description covers three genuinely different businesses, and they are not interchangeable.
| Type of agency | What it optimizes for | How it gets paid | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brand and content agency | Awareness, follower growth, a consistent account presence | Monthly fee for content production and account management | Reach, watch time, follower growth, brand lift |
| Influencer marketing agency | Reach through named creators | Fee per campaign, plus flat fees paid to creators per post | Impressions delivered against a media plan |
| Commerce agency (TikTok Shop) | Products sold inside the app | Retainer or a share of GMV; creators paid commission on sales | Gross merchandise value, return on ad spend, contribution margin |
MADA is the third kind. We are a TikTok Shop Official Partner in the United States, and everything we run is pointed at in-app checkout: the shop itself, the affiliate creator program inside Affiliate Center, and GMV Max and Spark Ads campaigns placed behind creative that has already sold something.
The reason to be blunt about that in the first section rather than the last is that these three businesses fail in different ways. A brand agency judged on GMV will look like it is failing at a job it was never hired to do, and a commerce agency judged on follower growth will look the same. Hiring the wrong one of the three is the most expensive mistake in this category, and it is made at the brief stage, not during the work.
What is the difference between TikTok marketing and TikTok Shop marketing?
The difference is where the transaction happens, and almost everything else follows from it.
Conventional TikTok marketing moves a viewer from the feed to somewhere else: your Shopify store, your Amazon listing, a landing page. TikTok Shop marketing keeps the transaction inside the app, where the viewer buys from the video without leaving it. In-app checkout is not a small convenience difference. It removes the step where most of the intent generated by a good video disappears.
TikTok marketing that ends at a view is a brand exercise; TikTok marketing that ends at a checkout is a sales channel. Both are legitimate work. They need different people, different measurement and different creator economics.
| TikTok marketing (brand) | TikTok Shop marketing (commerce) | |
|---|---|---|
| Objective | Attention and recall | Units sold |
| Unit of work | A campaign or a content calendar | A creator cohort, seeded and briefed weekly |
| Creator payment | Flat fee per post, negotiated in advance | Commission on attributed sales, plus free product |
| Volume | Tens of posts | Hundreds to thousands of videos a month |
| Primary metric | Impressions, engagement rate, brand lift | GMV, ROAS, contribution margin after all fees |
| What breaks it | Weak creative | Thin margin, shallow inventory, or a shop with no reviews |
| Who it suits | Brands with a funnel elsewhere that need demand at the top of it | Brands that want TikTok itself to be the store |
If what you need is a TikTok account that builds an audience, a content studio producing a weekly calendar, or a campaign timed to a retail launch, a brand agency is the better hire and we will say so on the call. That work is real and we do not do it.
What does MADA actually do for an ecommerce brand?
Four disciplines, run together. An agency doing only one of them will not move GMV on its own, which is the most common reason a TikTok engagement produces content and no sales.
Creator and affiliate marketing. Designing the affiliate program in TikTok's Affiliate Center — commission rates set against your landed margin, Open Collaboration and Target Collaboration offers, free-sample plans — then sourcing creators, approving sample requests, briefing hooks and a do-not-say list, chasing the ones who take product and do not post, and tracking which creators actually sell rather than which have the most followers. How the creator program is run, in detail.
TikTok Shop ads. GMV Max campaigns and Spark Ads placed behind creator videos that already converted organically. Budget allocated by return rather than by impressions. What we do on the paid side.
UGC and shoppable video. The creative supply that everything else runs on. Ad spend can only scale as fast as proven creative arrives, so the seeding operation is the constraint on the ad account long before the budget is.
Shop management. Registration and verification, category qualification, listings and variants, shipping templates, promotions, Shop Performance Score, violations and appeals. Unglamorous, and the reason a shop with good content still converts badly. What full-service management covers.
The sequence matters more than the list. Creative supply comes first, paid amplification second, and a brand that reverses those two spends its budget teaching the algorithm with video that was never tested.
Why is TikTok Shop the center of TikTok marketing in 2026?
Because that is where the money moved. TikTok Shop's US gross merchandise value reached $15.1 billion in 2025, up 68% from about $9 billion the year before, according to research published by Momentum Works and Tabcut. Their figures put in-feed video at roughly 50% of that GMV, the Shop tab at 36% and live commerce at 14%.
The practical consequence for a marketer is that the shoppable video is no longer a variant of the brand video. It is the main format, and it is the one the platform's own ad products are built to amplify.
The same research contains the number worth putting beside it. Of roughly 803,500 US TikTok Shop stores, more than half recorded no sales at all, while more than 2,000 passed $1 million in GMV. A channel can be growing at 68% a year and still be a place where most participants sell nothing. Opening a shop is not a strategy, and the gap between those two groups is operational rather than creative.
This is also why the phrase "TikTok marketing" has quietly changed meaning for ecommerce brands. Social commerce and shoppertainment describe the same shift: entertainment-led content where the purchase happens inside the entertainment. What a TikTok Shop agency does, and what it costs, is set out in full here.
How does a TikTok ads agency run GMV Max and Spark Ads?
Start with the fact that decides everything else: GMV Max is no longer optional. It became the default campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads in July 2025 and, from 1 September 2025, the only one — Video Shopping Ads, Product Shopping Ads and LIVE Shopping Ads can no longer be created for a TikTok Shop destination, per TikTok's own documentation on the GMV Max migration.
Anyone still selling you a choice between GMV Max and manual TikTok Shop campaigns is describing a decision the platform removed. The real question is how you feed it.
GMV Max needs two things you have to supply. Creative volume, because it selects from your shoppable video library rather than producing anything, and conversion history, because it optimizes toward a return target it has to learn. A shop with four videos and no sales history gives an automated system nothing to optimize, and the spend goes out at a loss while it looks for signal.
Its reported return overstates incremental return. GMV Max attributes sales from promoted products broadly, including organic and affiliate-driven purchases that would have happened anyway. That is not a flaw to complain about, it is a measurement property to correct for: we read the shop's total GMV against total spend, not the campaign's own ROI tile. The longer explanation of what GMV Max does and does not measure.
Spark Ads still matter, in a narrower role. A Spark Ad runs an existing organic post — yours or a creator's, with their authorization — as an ad while keeping the original post's identity, comments and engagement. That makes it the tool for concentrating budget on one proven creator video at one moment, where GMV Max spreads spend across the library. Most shops should run GMV Max as the core of the paid budget and use Spark Ads deliberately rather than continuously.
The sequencing rule we work to: let creator content run organically, find the videos that sell rather than the videos that get views, put paid budget behind those, and raise the budget only as fast as new proven creative arrives. Raising spend ahead of creative supply is the most common way a TikTok Shop ad account produces an expensive month and a wrong conclusion about the channel.
What results has MADA produced, and in which categories?
Every figure below is end-of-period monthly GMV taken from the client's own TikTok Shop Seller Center, and every row links to the case study carrying the screenshot it came from. Clients are described by category rather than named, which is our standard arrangement unless a brand has given written permission.
| Brand | Period | Outcome | ROI |
|---|---|---|---|
| A sea moss supplement brand | 180 days | $1,512,012 from zero | 4.5x |
| A health and wellness brand | 3 months | $90,000 → $303,130 monthly GMV (3.3x) | — |
| A sea moss brand launching from zero | 40 days | $149,744 from zero | — |
| A home fragrance brand | 3 months | $20,930 → $108,001 monthly GMV (5.1x) | 3.62x |
| A womenswear brand | 2 months | $15,000 → $48,259 monthly GMV (3.2x) | 9.59x |
| A microneedling device brand | 3 months | $10,198 from zero | 3.35x |
Methodology: figures are from individual client accounts MADA operated, taken from TikTok Shop Seller Center reporting over the periods stated. These are selected engagements shown alongside their source screenshots, not an average across all clients, and past performance is not a guarantee of future results.
The categories we have actually run are supplements, health and wellness, beauty and skincare, hair care, food and beverage, apparel and home goods. Compliance-heavy categories are where the operational half of this work matters most: in supplements and anything ingestible, what a creator says about the product becomes the seller's violation, so briefing carries a do-not-say list and content gets reviewed after it goes live. All 17 case studies, with the Seller Center exports, and how this runs in supplements specifically.
How much does a TikTok marketing agency cost?
Rates in this category are rarely published, which makes comparison hard and is one reason we publish ours.
MADA charges $2,500 a month for shops below $25,000 in monthly GMV, or 10% of GMV at or above it. One or the other, never both, with a 3-month minimum term generally. The full breakdown, including what the fee does not cover, is here.
Across the market you will meet four models: a flat monthly retainer, a percentage of GMV, a hybrid that converts from one to the other at a threshold, and a one-off setup or project fee. Which one an agency uses tells you what it is incentivized to optimize. A pure retainer is paid the same whether GMV grows or not. A pure percentage is aligned on revenue but not on margin, because GMV can always be bought with discounts.
The agency fee is also the smallest question. Selling on TikTok Shop carries the platform referral fee, affiliate commission on every attributed sale, ad spend, sample and seeding shipping costs, returns and your own COGS. A shop can grow GMV impressively and lose money, because every one of those lines sits between revenue and margin. Build the whole stack before deciding whether any agency's rate is expensive. What TikTok Shop agencies charge, across the market, and the platform fees themselves.
When is MADA not the right TikTok agency for you?
Worth reaching before you book a call rather than after.
We are a TikTok Shop agency. The work is commerce operations: a shop, an affiliate creator program paid on sales, and paid media behind creative that converts. If the outcome you want is not units sold inside TikTok, we are the wrong firm, and these are the cases where that is true.
- You want brand awareness, follower growth or a content calendar. A TikTok-first brand or content agency does that, and does it better than a commerce operator would. Different skill, different measurement, genuinely different hire.
- You want influencer campaigns paid per post. Flat-fee creator campaigns measured on reach are influencer marketing. Our creator work pays commission on sales and runs at a volume that only makes sense when there is a shop at the end of it.
- You want traffic sent to Shopify or Amazon rather than to TikTok Shop. That is a legitimate strategy and it is not what we operate. The comparison of the two channels is here.
- Your margin cannot carry the full cost stack. Platform fee, commission, ad spend, samples, agency fee and COGS have to leave something behind. When they do not, the problem is arithmetic and no agency fixes it.
- You have no inventory depth. Creator content produces demand in steps. Selling out in week two wastes the work that caused the spike and damages the delivery metrics that govern your reach.
Most brands below a few thousand dollars of monthly GMV should spend their first months proving the product converts before paying anyone a retainer. We say that on first calls, and it costs us engagements.
If what you are after is selling product inside TikTok, that is the whole of what we do. Start with what a TikTok Shop agency actually does, or find the situation that matches yours.
Frequently asked questions
It runs a brand's presence on TikTok: sourcing or producing content, working with creators, buying ads and reporting on the result. The label covers three different businesses — brand and content agencies optimizing for awareness, influencer agencies buying reach through named creators paid per post, and commerce agencies selling product through TikTok Shop. MADA is the third.
A TikTok Shop agency is a TikTok marketing agency whose work ends at an in-app checkout. It operates the shop in Seller Center, runs the affiliate creator program in Affiliate Center on commission rather than flat fees, and buys GMV Max advertising against a return target. A general TikTok marketing agency may do none of those and be measured on reach instead.
MADA charges $2,500 a month for shops below $25,000 in monthly GMV, or 10% of GMV at or above it, never both. Across the market you will find retainers, a percentage of GMV, hybrids and setup fees. The agency fee sits alongside the platform referral fee, affiliate commission, ad spend, samples and your COGS, so it should be judged against the full stack rather than on its own.
We run TikTok Shop ads — GMV Max campaigns and Spark Ads behind creator videos that already converted. We do not run flat-fee influencer campaigns measured on reach. Our creator work is an affiliate program paid on commission against attributed sales, which is a different operation at a much higher volume.
That is the only kind we run, and the honest version of the answer includes its conditions. Sales require margin that survives the full fee stack, inventory depth to absorb a demand spike, and enough reviews on the shop that creators trust the product converts. Where those hold, creator volume plus paid amplification behind proven creative is what produces GMV.
Most of our clients sell elsewhere as well, commonly on Amazon or their own Shopify store, and an established brand usually has the hardest part — a product people already buy — solved before TikTok starts. What we operate is the TikTok Shop channel itself. We do not manage Amazon, Shopify or paid media on other platforms.
Yes. MADA is a TikTok Shop Official Partner in the United States and the US market is what we operate in. You can verify a partner designation yourself in your own Seller Center under Agencies and Partners, which is a better check than any badge on a website, including ours.
No. Opening and verifying the shop is part of the work, and it can be registered through our partner channel so the account is attached to MADA in TikTok's Partner Center from the moment it is created. TikTok still decides every application on its own criteria.
